Madhubani paintings are some of the most colorful and detailed in all India. This painting features an elephant with vibrant colors, flowers adorning its body while it stands on one leg looking into something below us that we can’t quite make out from our vantage point; but then again maybe I’m just being nosey! The vibrant colors of this painting make it difficult to take your eyes off the screen. The elephant is delicately painted with flowers decorating its body. The colors are bright and vibrant with appealing poses for viewers to enjoy. This painting of a Mithila-style elephant is an example of the traditional styles that are still used in this region.

The artwork has been done with natural and chemical-free colors and gives a village vibe. The elephant is painted with flowers that decorate its body and it stands on one leg looking into something below us that we can’t quite make out from our vantage point; but then again maybe I’m just being nosey!

The Mithila region is located northern part of India surrounded by Nepal. Mithila is a place of many rivers and waterfalls. The main crops grown in this region are rice, pulses, maize, wheat and other food grains. As well as the land to grow crops, the landscape is filled with forests that provide fuel wood and contain wildlife such as elephants, deer and tigers among others.
